Great Hikes - Top 10 Hikes in the World

According to Get Outdoors - http://www.getoutdoors.com/goblog/index.php?/archives/1318-Top-10-Hikes-In-The-World.html have reposted this from BestHike.

Top 10 Hikes in the World

Rick McCharles over at BestHike puts forth his nominees for the world's best hikes. It's a good list, but he's obviously dyslexic because he mixed up number one and two. With all due respect to the West Coast Trail, a beautiful and impressive trail, the JMT is second to none. And as the Center of The Outdoor Universe, it only makes sense that California have the #1 trail in the world.
  1. West Coast Trail, BC, Canada
  2. John Muir Trail, California, USA
  3. Tongariro Northern Circuit, New Zealand
  4. Ausangate Circuit, Peru
  5. Sunshine to Assiniboine, Alberta, Canada
  6. Glacier North Circle, Montana, USA
  7. Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
  8. Annapurna Circuit, Nepal
  9. TMB (Tour de Mont Blanc), Europe
  10. Overland Track, Tasmania
I would agree that the West Coast Trail is incredible. I did the north half before going tree planting in April 1994 just before Pacific Rim National Park opened and thus the boat at the midway point wasn't available.

I returned in August 1998 with friends and did the whole trail in a weekend in sandals...(dry year). The south is the best part. I recommend starting from the north as it only gets better as you go south.

Sunshine to Assiniboine is also good. I walked in to Mt. Assiniboine on an August Long Weekend and after getting hailed on and not finding the chute up to the hut, decided to call it and head home.

Hope to do the Glacier North Circle nearby in Glacier National Park, Montana and the John Muir Trail in this coming year.
